Watkins Glen / Summer Jam July 1973, 1973 original Vega Records LP, $958 + S / H
1973 original Vega Records LP pressing #VEGA-1 (32117), cover NM, NO seam or spine splits, NO cut-out markings, NO ring-wear, vinyl NM, NO scratches, plays excellent. The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead & The Band recorded live in front of 650,000 on July 28, 1973 in upstate New York. Not as clear as official recordings, but not bad audience tapes. All songs & singing can be enjoyed quite easily.
The 1st 2 songs are by The Allman Brothers Band, with an introduction by promoter Bill Graham who provided the lighting system for the event. He introduces the band members 1 by 1 in front of 650,000 screaming fans!! Introducing them as simply "The Allman Brothers" as they start with "Blue Sky" from their 1972 "Eat A Peach" 2LP (possibly to "honor" departed Brothers Duane Allman & Berry Oakley who BOTH played on the original Capricorn Records release). Now new members Chuck Leavell on piano & Lamar Williams on bass were on stage for this HUGE event.
The next 3 numbers are by The Band who actually play MORE songs here on this LP than on their "official' "fake" Capitol CD "Live At Watkins Glen" which only contains 1 or 2 actual songs from the event! Their rendition here of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is great! As usual.
The last song is by The Grateful Dead who do a 14 minute "Not Fade Away", NOT as spirited as the version on the live "skull & roses" 2LP but HEY! "There WAS nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.". These guys played for like 5 hours that day (+ a couple MORE the previous day at rehearsals), WHERE's the rest of it??

The Allman Brothers Band / Grateful Dead ~ The Longest Day, Japan pressing 6 CD + Poster, $358 + S / H
Recorded Live at RFK Stadium, Washington DC, June 10, 1973. The 2nd day of 2 days of concerts at the DC venue. On June 9th, Doug Sahm opened to an audience of 53,000 paying customers. On June 10th, Wet Willie opened to a smaller crowd of 30,000. The Grateful Dead & The Allman Brothers Band played both days, with slightly varying set-lists.
On disc 3, the song "Jack Straw" (track 3-3) is missing on back cover (or not listed, because it plays on the disc) & track 3-4 is listed on back cover as "U.S.A. Blues", which is actually track 3-5 on the disc, and the correct title should be "US Blues". At the 7 minute mark, track 5-3 "Dark Star" veers off into a path I've never heard before (in countless versions), and by the 14 minute marker, it comes back to the usual path just before the lyrics start again. Includes fold out 2-sided mini poster. It unfolds open to 8 X CD-size. Review of the concert is on the back side.
