The AMOS GARRETT DOUG SAHM GENE TAYLOR Band ~ "The Sahm Always Rises In The East", 2008 original Discos Doug Saldana 2CDr, Not For Sale

2008 original Discos Doug Saldana #039, Limited #'d Edition, #1 out of only 7 copies made. Recorded live at Kuidan Kaikan, Tokyo, Japan, May 28, 1990. Recording courtesy of John the III (Maryland, USA). Did The Sir Douglas Quintet ever play Japan? I only have a VHS video of The Texas Tornados playing at the Japan 1992 Mt. Fuji Country Music Festival playing with Mt. Fuji in the background (along with Doug Kershaw, and others), so I'm thinking, maybe the lack of Tex-Mex food available in Japan kept Doug Sahm's other bands from visiting Japan as often as they did Europe.

DOUG SAHM / The Texas Tornados? - The Record Plant, Sausalito, CA, 1985, original private pressing 2CDr, Not For Sale

After listening to the disc 1 set list, this sounds like the November 11, 1973 New York City Record Plant we have listed on another page, as all the songs on disc 1 could have been recorded in 1973 (none are from a later period, or album), I will agree that the recording date is November 11, 1973, however, whether it's "east coast or west coast"? that's another matter. Disc 2 has it's own questions as to if it's actually the Texas Tornados, or more likely The Sir Douglas Quintet! The 1st & last songs from the "Texas Tornados" set tells me, just by looking at the set list titles that indeed, it is The Sir Douglas Quintet, circa 1985 (so that part of this item is correct on the cover, the 1985 date, at least for disc 2). The 1st song is introduced by Doug as being "brand new" (and it came out on the 1985 LP "Luv ya Europa!").  While the last song on this partial set list ("It Was Fun While It Lasted") to my knowledge was never performed by the Texas Tornados (it was from the Alvin Crow days in the SDQ, 1981 - 1983). So, a healthy dose on what nowadays is called "misinformation" all the way around on this 2-disc set, but HEY! It's still good rock-n-roll to me!!
